By now most of you should know what I'm referring to (just in case you don't you can look here, and here). These are the days to celebrate the Stupendous Stu Flint! Grab a frosty beverage, find a sunny spot, lay back and do absolutely nothin'! Doesn't that sound like a fantastic way to spend the day?

Most anyone who knows my dad, knows what a wonderful man he is. No one could ever compare to the sweet, loving, hilarious and amazing talented man who raised me (sorry Morning Man).

I'll never be as good a lyricist as my dear ol' dad,
but here's a little ditty for the man who made me me:

I love you so so much, and though nothing can beat last years surprise, I hope you know how much you mean to me.

I asked my mom how she and dad are going to celebrate tonight, she told me they're going kickboxing. Now that's a party!

we're baaack {our mexico trip}

It's been one week since The Man and I got back from Mexico and I'm (finally) ready to tell you all about it!
Get ready for a photo heavy post!

We went to Mexico because my life long family friend Nicole and her now hubby Mike decided to have a destination wedding in Playa Del Carmen. It was such a wonderful trip and I am so thankful to Nicole and Mike for giving me a reason to go on a week-long vacation.

Our first day there we went straight from the check-in desk to a pontoon! The Bride and Groom were really awesome and organized a few excursions for anyone who wanted to join. It made it so much easier to see things outside of the resort.

So, with barely any sleep and almost no food in our stomachs we went out into the Caribbean Sea to go snorkeling. Besides the sea-sickness it was fantastic!!! I've never been snorkeling before, and at first it was a little uncomfortable but once I got used to it I didn't want to get out.

We saw so many schools of fish and a giant stingray and a big adorable turtle!!

The next day we all went to Tulum and Coba.

Tulum was beautiful...and scorching hot. Most of our party wore swimsuits under their clothes and jumped in the ocean as soon as we got there. My parents and I weren't that prepared and decided to find a shady spot to sit and enjoy our surroundings.

My favorite part of that day was when we were all let off the bus to go find something for lunch. The Man, my parents, and I all decided to break away from the crowd and wander down the road a bit. We stopped at La Bisteca where my parents ordered steak tacos and The Man and I had choripan (an Argentinian sausage sandwich). It. Was. Delicious. So amazingly delicious!!

The resort we stayed at was "all-inclusive" so the all-you-can-eat buffets and restaurants weren't really trying that hard, if you know what I mean. All we wanted all week long was authentic Mexican food and we got it at La Bisteca.

After lunch was Coba. The great thing about Coba is they're not as determined to preserve the ruins so you can climb all over them! Unlike Tulum, Coba is surrounded by jungle so it was really nice and cool while we were walking around. However, Coba is large, and very spread out, and, like most places in Mexico, there are no maps. So when The Man and I got back to the bus we soon found out what we had missed.

Apparently the reason to go to Coba is the giant ruin that towers over the trees, which you can climb all the way to the top of. Most people in our group took bicycle taxis around the ruins so they could see all of it, but The Man and I lost the group and my parents (holding all the money) within the first 5 minutes of entering the park. It was kind of a bummer once we saw how beautiful everyone's pictures were, but maybe now we have a reason to go back one day :)!

The fam and I aren't really resort people so we tried to get out a little bit everyday. Friday there was nothing pre-planned so we took a taxi into town. It was pretty and fun to see more of Mexico, but we got tired of being attacked by all the store owners trying to sell us tchotchkes and decided we'd have more fun in the pool.

For the most part we all hung out and ate together, but that night The Man and I decided to have a little date night. We went to the Japanese restaurant at the resort and sat at the grill, like you would at a Benihana. I’ve never been to a place like that so it was really fun.

Saturday was the wedding. It was beautiful.

Surprise, surprise, I was a blubbering mess. Nicole was beyond gorgeous in her wedding dress and the hotel did a beautiful job with the flowers. The ceremony was on the beach and the reception was held in the Italian restaurant (which was the best restaurant at the resort). The food was delicious and everyone had a blast dancing the night away.

The last day was my Mom's birthday. She got a sneak attack saxophone serenade for breakfast, complete with a napkin hat.

And in the afternoon we decided to go to Cozumel for lunch... that's when I realized I don't like big boats! I got super sea-sick, like shaky, sweaty, up-chucky, about to pass-out sea-sick!

Apart from the dock workers recognizing me as that sick crying girl on the way back, Cozumel was beautiful and I wish we could have stayed longer. We went to our friend's hotel restaurant for lunch and I'm glad we did! It was the second delicious Mexican meal we had in Mexico, with juicy steak, seafood, and enchiladas! The ferry back to Playa Del Carmen was at 5, so we headed to the resort for one last dinner together.

Mom got her birthday full moon and in the morning we said our goodbyes.

It really was a wonderful trip, I'm so happy we went!

Hello All!
We're back from sunny Mexico, and trying to get back on track after a whole 4 days off work. I have so many things to show you but it's going to continue to be slow goings while I play catch up with the rest of my life.

I know I could wait until Monday to post my Mexico nails but I'm just too excited!
Palm trees are very common for tropical vacation nails so I wanted to add a little something extra...

Enter a little surfing guy and a mini landscape!

It was so much fun to paint these, and bit by bit I'm getting more comfortable using the tiny brushes.

We had a fantastic time in Mexico and I have many pictures to show you once I get them all loaded onto my computer, but for now you can just bask in this beachy sunset panorama.

Back in March I saw a post on one of my favorite blogs Gems (formally Where the Lovely Things Are). It was about the collaboration between Oliver Jeffers and Digby & Iona. Together they created a new collection of jewelry based off various characters and objects from Oliver Jeffers' children's books.

All the charms looked so cute but I had never heard of this Oliver Jeffers fellow, so I decided to investigate. And soon I fell in love . . . with his books. I love his illustrations and his stories are just so wonderfully bizarre.

My dad and I have always shared a love for children's books. We were always on the hunt for a new book with eye catching illustrations, so when I saw Oliver Jeffers' illustrations I new I had my dads birthday present down pat.

I wanted to get him "The Great Paper Caper" but the bookstores didn't have it in stock (and it somehow never entered my mind that the internet exists, with it's vast knowledge, endless supplies, and shopping cart function)

So instead I got him "The Way Back Home." I don't have any kids (and I won't for sometime - don't worry) but I might have to start my children's book collection early.

In addition to a kids book I also got my dad a bottle of Red Eye Coffee Porter by Two Brothers, because he's a grown up.

And I made him this card, because he like's sittin'.

back to work - wah wah

It's been two weeks now since The Man and I took a little vacay to the Best Coast, i.e. the West Coast, i.e. Portland Oregon!!! Back in December my dad found some insanely cheep tickets that we just could not pass up. It was a great trip, as usual, and it made me long for the day that we move there . . . as usual.

This time around we didn't have any grand plans or big sights to see. We kept it mellow, with lots of eating, and lots of naps (my favorite kind of vacation). And although we kept the activities light, there still somehow wasn't enough time. There are always so many people I love to visit when I go back home and I barely saw half this time around (sorry if I missed you!).

It was great finally showing The Man some of the sights within Portland. Our first couple of trips out to Oregon The Man was really excited to go on long drives and check out all the big must-sees (Mt.Hood, Multnomah Falls, Canon Beach (/all up and down the coast), Tillamook Cheese Factory . . .), but this time he was out of destinations, so we took to the streets!

Day 1: fat city/hippo/vintage/tacos/rebuilding-center/car broke down

We woke up bright and early on our first day and headed straight to Fat City Cafe, our favorite Portland breakfast place, it's a must for at least half the mornings we're in town.

After we stuffed our faces with eggs and bacon, we drove over to Hippo Hardware.

I've always loved the Hippo Hardware building, I've passed it a million times but I had never gone in before.

It. Is. Awesome.

I really want to own a house in Portland so I can get my lighting and cabinet pulls at Hippo!

We walked around Burnside a bit and went into some of the cute vintage stores (I got a "new to me" jacket and necklace!), but after all that scouring we were famished.

¿Por Que No? was right across the street from our next destination so we stopped in for some delicious tacos.

Soooo Delicious.

Our "next destination" was the Rebuilding Center, its right across the street from ¿Por Que No? and Mississippi Pizza, and honestly you can't miss it. The building itself is beautiful, the entry consists of huge trees made of recycled objects and metal scraps, and the fence surrounding the outside of the building is made of warped tools and bits of machinery. Way cool.

Day 2: fat city/goby/ hang with friends

After some sweet Eggs Bennie, we went to Goby.

The Man had just worked with some beautiful Walnut slabs that had been shipped over from Oregon, and got really excited when he found out the place was in Portland! So we drove out to St. Helens Road to check it out.

We were all in a tizzy looking at the piles of beautiful wood slabs and thinking of the endless possibilities of what each one could be turned in to.

Day 3: tle/powells/oscars

No more Fat City. wah wah.

Sunday was the first day my Dad was able to join us, it was hard to get everyone out of the house but we had fun going downtown. My parents were excited to show us Tender Loving Empire

It's a really cute shop, and it reminds me of Renegade Handmade (which recently closed it's doors, now that the Renegade Craft Fair has grown so much).
After looking at all the local wares we headed to Powell's. We went there on our last visit too but it's always a must, even if you don't like books you have to go. I was so focused on finding some of the books on my list that I didn't take a single picture! (so unlike me).

Day 4: country cat/pittock/ken's

On our last day we decided to go to Country Cat for Breakfast.

After eating my favorite meal of the day we went to Pittock Mansion

The past home of Portland pioneers and built in 1914, Pittock Mansion is located in Forest Park. It's a beautiful house, and a fun peak into Portland's past. It was almost destroyed in the 60's but the City bought it and turned it into a museum open to the public.
