it's not about the nail

My boss sent me this video and I just had to share.

I can't tell you how many times I've complained to The Man about something, anything: work, life, knee pain, hunger, goals, "what it all means," and all I want is a little sympathy, a little "yeah, that sucks," but every time he tries to solve my problems!

It's always the same, ladies just want a little camaraderie, they want to share their problems and in return get some justification that their feelings of frustration or sadness or annoyance are right on point.  Men hear our complaints and want to tell us how to fix our problems or tell us that we're probably over-reacting and with a few adjustments we could just get over it.

It's Not About The Nail from Republic Content on Vimeo.

This video is so funny I got tears in my eyes!!

The Man and I have had this discussion more times than I can count, and now when I complain he asks me "Do you want me to help or just agree with you?" and for the most part I pick the latter.

emergency compliments

If you're feeling down and you need a boost check out emergency compliment.  It's a hilarious random compliment generator.

So far these are my favorites . . .
What a great idea!!
And if you really love the comment, you can buy a print of it!!
I might need the top one for my kitchen.

the conversation

Alright, I don't know how I missed this, but maybe you did too.

While falling down the rabbit hole that is the internet I happened upon an interview between Garance Doré and Amanda De Cadenet. Garance Doré is a wonderful fashion blogger, photographer, illustrator... who, on her blog, has a web-series called Pardon My French (which I love to watch).

Although she looked familiar, I had never heard of Amanda De Cadenet, but in this 10 minute video they talk about her new venture, The Conversation.

As it turns out The Conversation is a series that came out at the beginning of the year on Lifetime. I started watching the videos on Amanda De Cadenet's website and I just had to share.  The videos are a series of interviews with various women, from actresses, to authors, to senators, etc. but unlike the type of interview you're used to seeing on television these are  . . . comfortable.  It's like watching two friends chatting without any pretense or prodding, and what they discuss is both relatable and genuine. It's really refreshing.

Here is a link to the first episode. Give it a try, I found the series quite wonderful, and you don't have to have an interest in these women's lives as celebrities (the first episode is with Jane Fonda, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Silverman, and Zoe Saldana) to have an interest in what they have to say as women.

oliver jeffers

Back in March I saw a post on one of my favorite blogs Gems (formally Where the Lovely Things Are). It was about the collaboration between Oliver Jeffers and Digby & Iona. Together they created a new collection of jewelry based off various characters and objects from Oliver Jeffers' children's books.

All the charms looked so cute but I had never heard of this Oliver Jeffers fellow, so I decided to investigate. And soon I fell in love . . . with his books.  I love his illustrations and his stories are just so wonderfully bizarre.

My dad and I have always shared a love for children's books.  We were always on the hunt for a new book with eye catching illustrations, so when I saw Oliver Jeffers' illustrations I new I had my dads birthday present down pat.

I wanted to get him "The Great Paper Caper" but the bookstores didn't have it in stock (and it somehow never entered my mind that the internet exists, with it's vast knowledge, endless supplies, and shopping cart function)
So instead I got him "The Way Back Home." I don't have any kids (and I won't for sometime - don't worry) but I might have to start my children's book collection early.

In addition to a kids book I also got my dad a bottle of Red Eye Coffee Porter by Two Brothers, because he's a grown up.
And I made him this card, because he like's sittin'.

STUFEST Continues!!!

clever bedding

I saw this post from a thousand words a few weeks ago, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head.  I just think this is the sweetest idea! Kids normally have their art up everywhere, and not only on pieces of paper clipped to the fridge, but on brown paper book covers, or t-shirt's, etc., but how many kids can say that they designed their own bedding?!
Jen from a thousand words scanned in her son's drawings, tidied them up on the computer, printed them out on regular ol' computer paper, and then traced them through the duvet cover with a fabric marker.  Super simple, and a little labor intensive (she ended up transferring 119 of his drawings onto the queen sized duvet cover).  This is such a cute idea, you have to check it out!!!

love day {clue}

It's almost Valentine's DAY!! I so badly want to show you the cards I made but I have to wait (the recipients might sneak a peak and then their card won't be a surprise!).  So, I can't show you the cards I made (yet) but I can show you my inspiration . . .

Color me Katie is a super cute blog I frequent, and back in December she posted a super cute and super clever idea.
How Awesome!
It's easy and simple, so I took the idea and ran with it.
Hopefully I can show you what I did soon!!

Did you make any love day cards for your sweethearts?

silly siri

The iPhone 4S isn't even officially out yet and there is already a website for the crazy responses Siri has for your questions and requests. Shit That Siri Says is going to be a fun site to frequent, here are some of the posts they already have:

I think this one might be my favorite so far:
Hahaha, Siri is a nerd!
It probably took me longer to get the 2001 reference then Siri.

So will you be buying the new iPhone 4S or holding out until the 5 is released? I'm too poor for either, but Siri almost makes me want to save up!

say it with pie

While on my weekly morning blog jog today I came across Pippi Konstanski's Flickr pippijewelry.  She makes jewelry but that's not what caught my attention . . . Look at these PIES!!:

food week on "where the lovely things are"

One of my favorite blogs to visit every morning is Where the Lovely Things Are.  Right now I'm an even bigger fan because she has devoted this whole week to food! It's Food Week! How fun is that? She'll be blogging about anything and everything food related.  I was really excited by yesterday's post about food books, look at some of the cookbooks she found:

I love cookbooks! My collection is pretty small so far but there are quite a few she mentioned that I'd love to pick up, especially Tart and Sweet: 101 Canning and Pickling Recipes for the Modern Kitchen, I really want to learn how to Pickle things and Can some fruit! My mom told me about Miette, it has pink pages with scalloped edges and the recipes are from the pastry shop in San Francisco, I'm excited to buy it but I'm going to wait until the fall when the corrected version comes out (aparently there were a few mistakes printed).  And can you beleive there is a whole cookbook devoted to PotPies!!?!  I want so many of these! On her blog she lists the name of each book pictured with a link to a place to buy it. She's so helpful!

Head on over to her blog and check out some foodspiration!

terrible timing

Oh the irony.  Oh the sadness.  Oh the cheese.

I recently came across an awesome website.  It's called Grilled Cheese Social.
I also recently became Lactose Intolerant.
And now you understand the tittle of this post.

At first it came on slowly, I'd feel just a tad gross after eating something super cheesy or cream based, but never anything bad enough to stop eating dairy all together.  It grew little by little over the past year, until BAM! July 19th 2011, our building had an Ice Cream Social and I went waaaaaaaay overboard.  So now I'm trying to live a cheese-less life, and just when I had it under control I found Grilled Cheese Social.

Here are some of the recipes I'm drooling over
(It was way too hard to narrow it down so I picked out 5 of my favorites)

YUM!

So, do me a favor.  If you love cheese, and your body can break it down, go to this site, pick out your favorite, make yourself a cheesy treat, and tell me how it was!
I need to live vicariously!!!

thoughts of a craftsman

I saw this video posted on Design Sponge a few days back and e-mailed it to myself to share it with Andrew.  I think he and the guys at the shop have watched it like 20 times since.

It's so funny.  Of course he understands more of the jokes than I do, but I was still cracking up so much I had to share with all of you:
