squiggle mani

This weeks mani was inspired by the Memphis Group.  Specifically Ettore Sottsass' lively squiggle pattern (most commonly seen on laminate which is still in production at Abet Laminati).
I know you've seen it....
Was I right? I feel like this style and pattern are having a bit of a comeback right now too.  Not so much in furniture (like it was in the 70's and 80's), but in art prints and patterns on clothing.
I'm totally on board for the comeback.
We're heading to Cincinnati this weekend to visit some friends,
so, have a great weekend everyone!!

farewell summer mani

It was nice while it lasted, but come Monday it's officially fall (or winter if you're in Chicago, because Spring and Fall do not exist here).

Though I never got the chance to swimsuit up this summer, I'm still going to miss the possibility of running around outside in socially acceptable underwear.  So to honor these last few official days of summer I went with a swimming pool theme.

Round one went like this:
I loved the pool textured background (it's a really simple technique using plastic wrap). But the floaties, inner-tubes and noodles needed a little something extra...
So I outlined all the pool toys in black. It looks so much better don't you think? All the floaties are in neon so they don't come out very well in pictures.  Just imagine the orange orangier, the yellow yellowier, and the pool blues contrastier.
Farewell Summer, you were unpredictable as always.  Thanks for the sunburns and ice cream trucks and the horrid music festivals that cover our city in bare bellied tweens. You will be missed.

doodle day

I don't know about you guys, but this cold weather (here in Chicago it's been in the 40's and 50's) is giving me terrifying flashback of last winter.  It's only September and I already want to make a blanket cave and huddle down for the winter.

today's doodle is a combo of post-it drawing, highlighter, and pixlr:

mani day

Good Tuesday to you!

This week I painted lips all over my nails....until I got to my second hand.  By that time I was getting tired so I sped up the process and went dot crazy:
It's a little random, and I definitely think it would look better if every nail was covered in the multi-colored little lips, but hey, you live and you learn!

mani monday ~ labor day/chicago dog nails

Happy Labor Day!
We had a wonderful relaxing three day weekend.
Today we drove up to the Skokie Lagoons and rented a tandem kayak for a little while.
It was absolutely gorgeous.  We saw tons of blue herons, ducks and even a few turtles!!

I kept it simple for my Labor Day nails…

White, white, white and a Chicago Dog to symbolize the BBQ we should have had :)
And now I must tend to dinner  (we're having ribeye, kale salad and homemade brownie ice cream sandwiches for desert! - YUM)

Enjoy your day of rest everyone!
