mani monday
Well, I know it' not Monday, but work was cancelled yesterday due to "Chiberia" (that's what they've coined this deep freeze) so today is the new Monday.
in 2014
This past week the blog-world has been filled with resolutions, fresh starts, and a can-do attitude.
So, here's my list, some are pretty cliche, but that's ok with me:
I've never been one for making resolutions, they're too easy to break. People always choose too huge of a task, and for some reason the word resolution feels like it comes with a deadline, as if all your statements need to be finished and wrapped up nice and neat by the end of the year. There's too much room for disappointment.
But for the past week I've been doing some reflecting. After reading at least 20 resolution posts from all those can-doers, I've been inspired to make a little list of my own. I still won't use the word resolution, but I think "goals" has a good ring to it. It's more of a desire to achieve something greater, as opposed to a commitment to finish some self-improvement by December 31st.
(I know these are arbitrary definitions I just created, but it's my blog, so go with it).

- Drink more smoothies - This summer I started to drink a smoothie for breakfast almost everyday, it felt so great! I started loosing weight, and the eczema on the back of my neck went away for the first time in 10 years. Then the winter hit, and I just can't seem to wake up in time (that, and drinking ice when it's -17 outside doesn't sound appealing most days).
- Get the studio organized and usable - The second bedroom in our apartment is supposed to be a creative space, but instead it's been the hodgepodge/storage room for the past year and a half.
- Post one drawing a week - I started "doodle day" a while back and I really want to get back into it. It doesn't have to be fancy, or finished, or even good for that matter, just as long as I'm being a little creative once a week, and creating more material for this blog.
- Work on one project a month - Speaking about being creative, I have so many projects and ideas I've wanted to start for years now. I need to stop waiting and making up excuses (like the messy studio) and just go for it.
- Plan an exercise routine with The Man... and stick to it - Here's the cliche. The Man has been talking about doing P90X together for some time now, and I've been fighting it, (because the idea of working out everyday for an hour sounds like living-hell to me) but after spending Christmas in Hawaii and seeing too many pictures of ourselves in bathingsuits -mid winter- I think it's time to go for it.
- Create photo albums of the last 4 years - This is something I've been wanting to do for years. I love how easy it is to take digital photos, but there's something about flipping through the pictures of a photo album that scrolling through iPhoto can not duplicate. As a kid my favorite thing to do was to sit and look through the albums my mom had put together (mostly to find pictures of myself), and now that we have a real computer that can handle me uploading all our pictures since 2009 I'm going to do it.
So, there you have it. Maybe I'll be able to stick to these, and maybe I won't, but just telling you about them will give me the push to start at least a few.
Happy New Year,
Keep warm and safe,
Love,
Me!
happy new year!
2014!! What?!?
I can't believe how quickly the holidays zoomed by!
Last night, after much deliberation, The Man and I decided to stay at home and ring in the New Year just the 2 of us.
We had a lovely dinner of steak, salami chop-block bread and I made this garlic butter roasted mushroom recipe from smitten kitchen.
And, to get into the New Years Eve spirit, I drank champagne straight from the bottle!
2013 was a pretty great year:
I got a new job,
The Man quit smoking,
I started doing my nails every week, and got a lot more intense about it!,
and The Man and I made some big decisions that I'll be telling you more about as 2014 continues.
Speaking about nails, this week I did sparkly New Years fireworks:
Happy New Year to you all,
and may this year be even better than the last!

merry holidays to you
Hello from sunny Hawaii.
We're here visiting The Morning Man's family in his home town of Honolulu, and I thought I'd take a quick break from the island breeze to wish you a Merry Christmas. I hope you are all having a wonderful day with the ones you love, far away from this distracting internet.
Before we left on Saturday I painted my nails. I tried to go big for the holidays but half way through I got much too tired and so hand #2 is a bit of a cop-out.
I went with Santa and his sleigh dropping presents down on Hawaii for the left hand. Then 1am hit and I tried falling presents and snow for the right.
I hope you all got everything you wanted this year, and I'll see you next week, back on the "Mainland."

Happy Monday!
Has anyone finished their holiday shopping?
On Sunday morning The Man and I realized this past weekend was the last chance we had to go out shopping for Christmas presents, so we went to … The Mall … in the Suburbs! AHHHHHHHH!
It was one of those exhausting shopping days where you get back home to look at your loot and you find that somehow after all those hours and all those stores you've barely managed to cross a single loved one off your list.
So we came home and took a break from thinking of the wants and needs of our family and friends, and I spent the remainder of the evening painting some Christmas Plaid on my nails.

Next Monday The Man and I will be in Hawaii visiting his family for the Holidays, and although I can't complain, I will be seriously missing my Mom and Dad and all our wonderful traditions.
Have a great week everyone!

Well, yesterday the snow finally came. The big downfall that won't completely melt until March or April, and that means it's officially the Christmas Season. It's hard to get into the holiday spirit when it's 9 degrees outside and there isn't a flake or flurry insight.
To welcome the new fluffy ground cover I decided to go with snow themed nails.
This is my little snow family:
Snowman, Snowwoman, and Snowkid
Thanks for being patient with my terrible posting habits. Once I get back into the swing of things I'll try to stop by here much more often.

Turkey Day
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I hope you're all having a wonderful dinner with family and friends.
mani not-monday
Hello All!
It's so dark all the time! You go to work, it's dark. You leave work, it's dark.
The sun sets at 4pm!!!
I wasn't able to get pictures of my nails in the daylight yesterday and I missed mani monday! But here they are…
I'm still trying to stay simple for my new job, so I did a little glittery mermaid action this week.
Glitter's simple?…right?
My awesome amazing friend Michelle works for MAC and couldn't use her nail polish collection anymore (she has to use MAC products) so she gave it all to me!! She had tons of glitter polish, so I used a bunch of them to create this look and added scales to one finger for a little fishy/mermaid tail detail.
What do you think? I'm trying to be low-key with my nails, but next week is Thanksgiving (CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!?!) so I'm going to have to throw caution to wind and go all out, Turkey Style!
I'm so excited!

tulips
Its Friday again! Yippee!
Do you have any big plans for the weekend?
I think I'm going to spend some time researching tulips because they've recently amazed me.
For our anniversary The Man bought me some flowers. He always knows to get me a weird mix of stuff, so I was very excited to go home and arrange them.
After a few days I started to notice something. The tulips were growing taller.
The stems grew twice their original size! I never new that flowers could continue to grow after they were cut. How cool is that? I mean, it kinda ruined my arrangement, but it's still pretty cool.
So, is this common tulip knowledge? Or did I just blow your mind?
Have a great Weekend!!!!

One week done!
Since I started a new job last week I decided to keep it mellow with my nails. Last week I went with pink...plain pink, no nothin' solid color pink.
This week I added a little more. My plan is to do a slow build, so here's my first attempt at simple:
